Coverage starts at $24 a month, and most gyms and studios we insure pay about $115 to $140 a month. See full pricing by gym type or compare the best gym insurance providers.

What kinds of gyms and studios do you cover?

We write most kinds of gyms and studios. Find yours below for the coverage and pricing built for it. Don't see your exact gym? It almost certainly fits under one of these, and we cover it.

Strength and conditioning

CrossFit, functional fitness, HIIT, bootcamp, weightlifting, and small-group training. Barbell work, gymnastics-style skills, rope climbs, and homemade rigs are all covered, and CrossFit affiliates get the $1M / $3M limits, additional insureds, and free certificates their affiliation requires.

Studio fitness

Yoga, Pilates, barre, indoor cycling and spin, dance fitness, and cardio down to rebounding. Your bikes, reformers, and mats are covered as studio property, and aerial or silks classes are covered when you select the aerial business type, which many insurers won't do.

Martial arts

Brazilian jiu-jitsu, boxing, karate, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, and mixed academies. Training, sparring, grappling, and ring or cage instruction are all covered, plus kids' classes ages 2 and up. Full-contact tournaments and sanctioned competition aren't on the standard policy.

Traditional gyms and fitness centers

Membership gyms, health clubs, and 24-hour or unstaffed facilities. Staffed open-gym hours are included; unstaffed or 24-hour access is a small add-on, about 15% on the liability portion, with a waiver that members enter at their own risk.

Recovery and wellness

Recovery studios with sauna, cold plunge, and compression, which many insurers exclude. The clinical services we don't cover are cryotherapy, IV therapy, and laser, which need their own policy.

What does gym insurance cover?

A gym policy is built from a few core coverages. Which ones you need depends on the gym you run.

General liability

Covers third-party injury and property-damage claims, like a member who slips on a wet floor or trips over a piece of equipment. Our standard limits are $1M per occurrence and $3M aggregate, enough for most leases and affiliations.

Professional liability

Covers claims tied to the instruction and training you provide, like a member who says a coaching mistake or bad programming caused an injury. It protects how the training was delivered, not just the condition of your space.

Business personal property

Covers your equipment, from racks and reformers to bikes and mats, when property is on the policy. It also includes business interruption, which replaces lost income if a covered event like a fire forces you to close.

Workers' compensation

Covers employee injuries on the job and is required in most states. It's always a separate policy from your liability coverage, and for martial arts gyms it's bought elsewhere entirely.

Signing a lease?

Your landlord goes on the policy as an additional insured at no extra cost, so you can send a certificate of insurance the same day you sign.

The claims gym insurance covers

The everyday situations your policy is built to handle.

  • A member slips on a wet floor near the water fountain and breaks a wrist.
  • A CrossFit athlete tears a shoulder mid-workout and blames the coach's programming.
  • A barre client trips on a prop and sues over the fall.
  • A dropped kettlebell cracks the shared wall with the tenant next door.
  • A fire in the electrical panel destroys a room full of spin bikes.

What gym insurance does not cover

  • Full-contact tournaments and sanctioned competition. Training, sparring, and grappling are covered.
  • Clinical services run under the same business: physical therapy, IV therapy, cryotherapy, and laser. Those need their own policy.
  • Swimming pools and full-size trampoline parks.
  • Flood. Burst pipes and sudden water damage are covered; rising-water flood is not.
  • The building shell itself, if you rent. A building owner needs their own property policy.
