We cover almost everything a gym does. Here's the short list we don't, what you can add for a little more, and why getting declined is rarely the end of the conversation.
Your policy is built to cover everything a normal gym does, unless it's specifically excluded. So the quickest way to know if something's covered is to check what isn't. This page is that list: a short set of higher-risk activities that aren't on a standard policy, plus a few you can add for a little more. If what you do isn't on either list, it's already covered. And if your gym was ever declined, here or anywhere else, it's still worth a conversation, because we review every decline by hand. Curious what's included? See the full coverage list here.
Like most gym insurers, we leave the higher-risk activities below off a standard policy to keep coverage affordable. Not sure where your gym falls? Just ask us before you buy and we're glad to confirm exactly what's covered for your setup.
These activities carry a higher risk of injury and liability claims, so they're not eligible on a gym policy. We can cover other kids' classes, ages 2 and up.
Swimming pools come with their own risks of drowning and injury, so they fall outside a gym's coverage. We do cover cold plunge pools.
Guns, archery, and shooting ranges aren't eligible on a gym owner's policy. You'll find HEMA coverage on our martial arts policies.
A licensed daycare has insurance requirements that differ from a gym business. But offering childcare, or having kids on site, is fine on all our policies.
Babies and dogs on site are fine, but "Mommy and Me" and "goat yoga" style classes are excluded. We cover kids' classes for ages 2 and up.
Some recovery treatments are riskier than others and aren't eligible for coverage. Cold plunge and saunas are covered on all our policies.
Physical therapy and sports medicine need medical malpractice insurance, which falls outside a gym policy.
Training, sparring, and grappling are covered, but hosting or competing in sanctioned full-contact tournaments is excluded. See what's covered for martial arts gyms.
Defensive tactics and combatives programs run for police, military, or public safety agencies sit outside a standard gym policy. Regular martial arts and self-defense classes are covered as normal.
Trampoline parks and ninja-style facilities carry too much jump-and-fall risk for a standard gym policy. Regular fitness, conditioning, and gymnastics-style movements are covered.
Running a kitchen or regular food prep isn't covered on a gym policy. A BBQ to celebrate a summer event, or a food truck at your grand opening, is totally fine.
Events over 100 people that are open to the public, charge for entry, or have outside sponsorship aren't covered. Member events and smaller gatherings are fine.
These aren't on a standard policy, but we can add them for a separate cost. If you don't see what you need, just ask.
Claims happen, and we don't think you should be penalized forever. Our lookback for past claims is three years, which is short compared to most gym insurers. We'll ask you to tell us a bit more about the claim. If it was a property claim (and most are), we can usually get approval to waive the 3-year limit. If it was a liability claim, it's still worth telling us your story. In most cases we can make an exception and help you get affordable coverage.
We still might be able to help you find coverage. It's worth reaching out and getting a quote with us. Our team contacts everyone who gets declined in our application, so we'll talk through your situation and see if there's a way to get you covered.
Often, yes. Rock climbing and bouldering walls aren't on a standard gym policy, but we can usually add them for a separate cost. Get a quote or contact us with the details of your walls and we'll let you know.
No. Cold plunge pools are not swimming pools. Cold plunge pools are automatically covered on your policy with us.
In our experience, most gym owners whose applications are declined were overthinking their answers, not because we can't cover their gym. We review every single declined application and reach out within a few days to go over the reason and make sure it's right for your business. If you can't wait to hear from us, fill out our contact form and we'll reply asap.
Some gym activities are simply too risky for us to cover while keeping prices low for everyone. If you're struggling to find coverage for your gym, reach out through our contact form and we'll try to make a recommendation for you.
This page was created with the help of AI and is meant as a general guide, not a statement of coverage or a legal document. Your actual policy, including its exact exclusions, is what determines what's covered. When in doubt, ask us or check your policy documents.
Don't let high costs or inadequate coverage hold your gym back. Protect your business and your students with insurance built for you.
